To putt is to score

I seem to be stuck in a scoring groove.  Sometimes I think I’m playing well, and some days I can’t get anything going.  I’ve played challenging courses and easy ones.  But at the end of the round, I always end up in the mid-80s.

Last time out, I started off really poorly and finished with 37 putts.  I had 6 three-putts and 5 one-putts.  I’m pleased with 5 one-putts (not too pleased), but 6 three-putts in a round is miserable.

A good golfer doesn’t make excuses, but nobody said I was a good golfer.  I blame my putting woes on showing up to the course late (damn you NYC traffic!) and jumping on the course without practicing.

I once vowed never to step on the course without putting first.  That is an unrealistic goal.  Some courses don’t even have a practice green (damn you NYC courses!).  Instead, I’ve ordered another of Dr. Rotella’s books, Putting out of Your Mind.  His other book has helped me greatly, and I hope this one will as well.
