Putting the driver away

Ever since hitting back to back tee shots out of bounds and ruining a decent score a few weeks ago, I’ve been a lot more selective about using my driver.  Unless there is a chance of reaching the green, the goal of your tee shot is to put you in the best possible position for your second shot - not to hit the ball as far as possible.

My best positions are 100, 130 yards, and 165 yards.  Assuming I can hit my 3 wood 240 yards, this means my driver might not be the best choice on holes less than 405 yards.  Instead of pulling out the driver by default, I always try to hit to one of my stock yardages in a fat part of the fairway.  An added benefit is that less lofted clubs are more accurate than drivers.
