PM golf
Last Monday I left for golf at 9:15 and didn’t get back until 5 pm. It only took 45 minutes of total driving, which means I spent 7 hours at the course. An hour was spent waiting to tee off (tee times appear to be approximations), and the round itself clocked in at six hours. One guy left after three holes (3!) and the other two left after hole 14.
Though I played the front nine poorly, I didn’t get upset about the horrendously slow pace. NYC public courses are always crowded on weekends and holidays. I knew Memorial Day would be slow.
This weekend, I’m going to try for a faster round. I’m going to play a shorter course - a par 64. Short courses have a faster pace of play than long courses because on long courses people always play the wrong tees. Also, instead of playing in the morning, I’m going to play after 2 pm. Hopefully the course will be less crowded then. If not, at least the twilight rate is cheaper!
